I started fishing like most of us as a child. My dad was not an outdoorsman being from New Jersey City, NJ. My grandfather who lived in Racine, WI was a fisherman. We lived on a polluted river in south eastern Wisconsin. About the only fish surviving were carp. Gramps would take us to the piers on Lake Michigan to catch yellow bellies, jumbo perch. We used cane poles and power lines and brought them home in wash tubs.
Once old enough to drive, along with my brother and a friend we went all over the state to fish and learn the outdoors. I did my Vietnam thing and came back. Besides working a full time job, I became a federal licensed captain on lake Michigan and took customers on fishing trips and dive trips for a quarter of century. I was able to afford large boats as a result. After winning salmon and trout contests and got into competitive fishing.
To support my fishing habit, I started making lures to sell to make fishing pay for itself. Later after moving to Kewaunee, WI., friends convinced me to become a Walleye Pro. I was sponsored by Skeeter and Yamaha among others.
I was blessed to team up with and learn from some of the best Walleye guys in the world. I discovered Arkansas while fishing in the PWT. I was ranked top 40 in the years I fished and qualified as a SuperPro. Now I am blessed to pass on the knowledge I have learned after seventy years of fishing.
Marty Sierocki and myself came to the realization that Greers Ferry Lake needed a voice, if the fishing is to go back to being one of the premier walleye lakes in the country . We started the club to do such, along with sharing knowledge and information between all anglers on all fishing species.
