I just wanted to share some info regarding Minn Kota trolling motors. Mine crapped out recently and doing research and talking to a dealer they now state to physically disconnect your trolling motor from from your battery source before hooking up or plugging in your charging unit. Apparently charging surges can cause damage to the trolling motor components and cause failures. Also don’t power on or test the motors while connected to a charger.
In troubleshooting my Minn Kota charging system I also found the Blade fuses in the charging wires totally corroded to where the plastic around the fuses had fractured. Never seen that on blade fuses and holders before.
Hopefully this will save someone else the headaches and costly repairs I’m going through.
Good fishing!
PS On my 24v motor there is a 3 prong plug straight from the motor you need to pull up front to disconnect.

Here is a guide on selecting batteries and charging batteries. I noticed it did not say anything about disconnecting trolling motor, but based upon what Roger shared, best to disconnect trolling motor.
