Greers Ferry Walleye Club and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are considering partnering together to purchase a Prosolo Oxygen Temperature Meter (or similar meter). Each organization would cover 50% of the cost of the probe, meter, carrying case.
The GFWC would use the Meter to obtain oxygen and temperature readings on a regular basis. AGFC would give a small reimbursement for each test completed by a GFWC member.
Benefits to Walleye Club
-Timely and accurate readings of temperature and dissolved oxygen levels will show GFWC members the location of the thermocline and other DO pockets where Walleye are likely to be found.
-The AGFC will be able to do better placement of habitat which will benefit GFWC members.
Benefits to the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission
-Accurate reporting of temperature and dissolved oxygen will help AGFC biologists identify any low oxygen levels that can result in fish kills, especially late summer. The location of thermocline will also aid them in determining the best depths and locations to put additional habitat in the lake.
The approximate cost will be approximately $2,200. GFWC will be raising funds to help cover their cost of $1,100.
Note: Several years ago the Twin Lakes Walleye Club started a partnership with AGFC and have found the information gathered very helpful.
